The Pakistan government has said it will give scholarships to Hindu
and Sikh students.
On Saturday, Pakistan's Evacuee Trust Property Board (ETPB) invited applications
from the Hindu and Sikh students from across the country, including
from Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK), to provide vocational training to
the talented students of the two minority communities under Baba Guru Nanak
Scholarship Programme.
ETPB spokesperson Aamir Hashmi told TOI that 25 students each from
both communities would be selected to receive vocational training in a bid to
help them become independent in life.
He said ETPB has already signed a MoU with Punjab Vocational Training Council
(PVTC) in March 2021.
PVTC will train the students in the districts of Nankana Sahib and
Rahim Yar Khan at the existing vocational training institutes of PVTC, Hashmi
said.
The ETPB would not only bear the training fee of the students but would also
give each student a scholarship amounting to around Rs 10000 per month.
He said that the idea behind giving scholarships to minority students was to
extend help to students whose parents couldn't afford higher education or
vocational training.
