The Pakistan Council of World Religions-Faith Friends, Peshawar chapter, has condemned the publication of sacrilegious caricatures in France and urged the international community to stop such hateful acts to promote interfaith harmony.

Speaking at a news conference at the Peshawar Press Club on Monday, the council's chairman Qari Rohullah Madni said that the publication of blasphemous caricatures had hurt sentiments of Muslims across the world.

He was also flanked by Bishop Humphrey Sarfaraz Peter, Hindus Rights Movement chairman Haroon Sarab Diyal, Sikh community representative Baba Gorpal Singh, Khateeb Masjid Mahabat Khan Qari Tayyaib Qureshi, Allama Abid Hussain Shakri, Maqsood Ahmad Salfi, Pastor Naeem Patrick and Hafiz Abdul Ghafoor.

Mr Madni said that Islam was a religion of peace and love and taught interfaith harmony. The representatives of the minority communities said that the intolerable act in France had caused severe mental agony among them as they lived peacefully with their Muslim brethren in Pakistan. They said that worship places of the minorities were fully safe and protected in the country.

They stressed the need for the international community to take serious notice of the irresponsible statements of French President Emmanuel Macron which had sparked anti-Muslim sentiment in the European country.

The minorities' representatives appreciated the Pakistan's stance against the blasphemous act and assured that all non-Muslims would fully support the government policies for strengthening the interfaith harmony and maintaining peace in the country.

They demanded of the United Nations to play its due role in bringing to an end such acts in future.
