Pakistan: A court in Pakistan has finally ordered a judicial inquiry into the case of the death of a Hindu medical student, Nimrita Kumari, in Sindh privince.

According to reports, the Sindh High Court (SHC) on Wednesday gave the go-ahead for a judicial inquiry into the Kumari death case, following demand from the family.

The SHC has written a letter to a session judge in Larkana, a town in Sindh province, over the death of the medical student who was in her final year.

The session judge had sought the SHC's permission for a judicial inquiry into the matter over the provincial government's request, Geo Tv reported on Wednesday.

Kumari's brother and father are yet to register a case and that consultations are being done with high officials over the registration of a first information report (FIR).

The investigating officer said that the police had completed interviews of senior professors, both her roommates and 40 other people in the college, while her classmates Mehran Abroo and Shan Ali were under arrest.

Kumari, a student of the Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto Medical University's (SMBBMU) Bibi Aseefa Dental College (also known as Chandka Medical College), was found dead on September 16, the university administration had said. Initiall reports suggested that she had allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling fan in her room in the university's hostel.

Kumari's death and subsequent forensic report declaring her death as suicide, sparked anger among people, espcially her family members who refused to accept he post-mortem report calling for a judicial inquiry.

According to the principal of Larkana's Chandka Medical College, Professor Dr K Das Dholia, the initial post-mortem report ascertained the cause of Kumari's death to be suicide.

The initial post-mortem report also confirmed there were no indication or marks of torture on her body, Professor Dholia added, noting further that samples from Kumari's body were sent to labs in Karachi and Larkana.

Police have already arrested two students on suspicion in the alleged murder case of Kumari, a BDS student.

According to reports, her room was locked from the inside and her friends called upon the security guard for help, who then broke into the room and discovered her body.
