Anna Bhau Sathe wrote about the social conditions of his time in his life, due to which he was seen as the founder of Dalit literature. Who was Anna Bhau Sathe?

Anna Bhau Sathe was a Marathi social reformer, poet and writer, who wrote about the social condition of Dalits throughout his life. He was born in a Dalit family. He did not study in school, Anna Bhau went to school for one and a half days. He left school due to caste discrimination. Initially, he was influenced by communist ideology, due to which he formed the Lalbavata Art Team in 1944. After this, he challenged many government decisions, which were against the rights of Dalits in the society. After independence, they did not agree with the rule of the upper castes, they refused to accept their rules and opposed them.

On 16 August 1947, he organized a movement with 20 thousand people, whose slogan was "This freedom is false", the people of the country are hungry. Later Anna Bhau Sathe got inclined towards Marxist and Ambedkarite ideology. According to the teachings of Ambedkar, he started working for the condition of Dalits in the society. After which he started describing the social condition of Dalits through his writings. Through his stories, he started putting the sufferings of Dalits before the society.

Contribution to Dalit literature

Anna Bhau Sathe was a Marathi social reformer as well as a writer of Dalit literature. Let us tell you that Anna Bhau Sathe has written 35 novels in Marathi language. Due to which he also received the Best Novel Award for 1961. He gave a new form to Dalit literature through his writings. There was a soft feeling towards Dalits in his literature. His literature consists of a collection of 15 stories, which were translated into many Indian and non-Indian languages. Apart from novels and short stories, Anna Bhau Sathe also wrote drama, 12 screenplays and 10 songs in the Marathi povada genre. Looking at his literature, he can rightly be called the founder of Dalit literature. Even today students and scholars read his literature.
