Samata Foundation has demanded the implementation of constitutional provisions on rights of Dalit people as per the order issued by the Supreme Court.
The SC yesterday had issued an order asking the government and the federal Parliament Secretariat to ensure the rights of Dalit people by making the necessary arrangement within three months.
The foundation issued a press release today and reminded the government of the SC order and also appealed to social organisations, rights defenders and the media to take special initiatives to help implement the court order.
"The government and its agencies such as the Dalit Commission were indifferent towards the effective implementation of Article 24 and 40 of the Constitution of Nepal," the press statement read, adding that the SC's directional order has encouraged the entire Dalit community.
Earlier, advocate Prakash Nepali had filed a writ petition at the SC, demanding a mandamus that asks the government for effective enforcement of Article 24 and 40 with necessary legal and policy arrangements.
